As a mom of two, I cherish hobbies that fill my cup, and lately, golf has been that for me. It took my husband some time to convince me to start playing. He ended up surprising me with a set of clubs and a golf bag. When your husband buys you a set of clubs and a golf bag, you play golf. My initial thought was that I’d be bored, that it’s not active enough, that it just wasn’t for me. I was wrong. The truth is, I wish I would have started playing years ago. Golf challenges me and scratches that competitive itch (against myself, mostly). Plus, I love being outdoors, and I find complete solace when I’m in the game.
As a mom of two, I first worried about leaving my kids for too long. You can play 9 holes if 18 is just too much. If you’re really interested in learning the game, look for a women’s golf clinic in your area. You can learn how to play and maybe find some girlfriends to start playing with.
Since I’ve been playing, I’ve become fascinated by what people wear to the golf course. I see a ton of traditional performance wear (i.e., Nike Golf), but every so often, I’ll see someone wearing a non-traditional (dope ass) outfit. Golf fashion is evolving, and I’m loving it. I was digging through the archives of women’s golf photos and found some looks that I would wear to the golf course today.
Before getting dressed for a round of golf, check the course’s dress code (i.e., some require collared shirts). You can get away with tennis wear for golf, but I always make sure I have pockets (so I can keep my tees and ball marker in them) and that my clothes give me a good range of motion for my swings.
I’m going to be honest. The golf menswear is just better than womenswear, but I did find some good stuff— some retail and some vintage. Ok. I love a baggy pant for golf. I just think it looks cool. Oh, and I love the look of a collared shirt under a sweatshirt. It’s the perfect look for those days that start off cooler. We have the 2nd set, and my almost 2 year old loves it. My 4 year old daughter has outgrown it and now uses a lightly used set from Play It Again Sports. (starting with a used set of clubs is the play, by the way)
